I made this with Microsoft Paint 3D, while listening to Tuvan throat singing, in which the singers maintain more than one note in resonance at a time.
Coming back to it later that night, I was struck by the resemblance to the aerial map of New York City – except a New York in which the complexity of the outer square of building and the inner forest of Central Park had been flipped.
It made me think of a world in which magic had taken over, where the wild and unruly anarchy of nature was the rule, instead of the exception. There’s a center to hold together, and everything goes curvy and tessellated once it leaves the center.
