I’ve been thinking about Saturn and Venus in an astrotheological context, and considering the archetypes present in culture.
In the Avengers movies, Thanos is Saturn. His character originates from Titan, a moon of Saturn. He wants to bring order and balance to the universe, like Saturn, and he will kill his children to do so.
Gamora is Venus, green like new life, alluring and deadly like nature. Saturn must kill life to create order. When his task is finished, he is killed by Thor, the Sun god. Of note, Thor has lost his eye, like his father Odin did for wisdom, and also like Horus.
Here is the Thoth Tarot card of the Universe, followed by stills from Avengers: Infinity War. The imagery of the woman contending with Saturn, crushing the head of the snake, foreshadows the use of time travel to defeat Thanos. Gamora is resurrected by time travel, at the cost of her love for Quill and redemptive arc. Without graves, there would be no resurrection, to quote Nietzsche.
Death is the secret of life. These are ideas I’ve been playing with lately, like in this poem, “Die Daily.” I learned on Monday that I failed my board exam, and that my months of effort had been fruitless, while everyone else in my class passed. I’m going through the grief process, and reconciling myself to retaking it in June, after some intense, transformative study.
I decided to get an apartment near my work, and live apart from my wife and three children for the next three months while I study. It will save me a ninety minute commute daily, and allow me to do what I need to. I can’t help but feel like I’ve let them down. It’s wrenching to think about my kids without me.
But the core of Saturn, Death and order, is diamond. The rain on Saturn is diamonds. Link to article. Extreme pressure turns our dirt into beauty.
Further thought on Saturn and Venus; this passage makes me think that Jesus was Venus to the apostles, and his father was Saturn:
John 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. 8And I heard a voice from Heaven again speaking with me and it said, “Go take the little scroll that is in the hand of the Angel who stands on the land and upon the Sea.” 9And I went to the Angel and I told him to give me the little scroll and he said to me, “Take and eat it and your belly will be bitter to you, but it will be like honey in your mouth.” 10And I took the little scroll from the hand of the Angel and I ate it and it was like sweet honey in my mouth and when I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. 11And he said to me, “A time is given to you again to prophesy unto the nations and peoples and languages and many Kings”.
John 10:
1After these things there was a feast of the Judeans, and Yeshua went up to Jerusalem.
2But there was a certain baptismal place in Jerusalem called in Aramaic, Bayth Khesda*, and there were in it five porches. 3And in these many people were lying who were ill, blind, crippled, cancerous, and they were awaiting the moving of the water; 4For an Angel descended from time to time to the baptismal and moved the water for them; whoever first descended after the moving of the water was cured of all sickness whatever he had. 5But a certain man was there who had been diseased for thirty eight years. 6Yeshua saw this man lying, and he knew that he had been so for a long time, and he said to him: “Do you want to be cured?” 7The sick man answered and said : “Oh, my lord, there is no one to put me in the baptismal when the waters are moved, but while I am coming, another goes down before me.” 8Yeshua said to him: “Get up! Pick up your bed and walk.” 9And immediately that man was healed, and he stood up, took his bed, and he walked, and it was the Sabbath day.10And the Jews were saying to him who was healed: “It is the Sabbath. You are not permitted to carry your bed.” 11But he answered and said to them: “He who made me well, he said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ” 12And they asked him: “Who is this man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk?'” 13But he that had been healed did not know who Yeshua was, for he had withdrawn himself in the great crowd that was in that place. 14After a time Yeshua found him in The Temple and said to him: “Behold, you are well again; do not sin, lest something worse than before should happen to you.” 15And that man departed and said to the Jews that Yeshua was the one who had healed him.
16And because of this, the Jews were persecuting Yeshua and were seeking to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath. 17But Yeshua himself said to them: “My Father is working until this hour, and I am also working.”*
18And because of this, the Jews were especially seeking to kill him, not only because he broke the Sabbath, but also because he said that God was his Father, and was making himself equal with God.
19But Yeshua answered and said to them: “Timeless truth I tell you: The Son cannot do anything of his own will, but the thing that he sees The Father is doing; for those things that The Father does, these also The Son does like him. 20For The Father loves his Son and he shows him everything he does; greater deeds than these He will show him, that you may be astonished. 21For just as The Father raises the dead and gives them life, thus also The Son gives life to them whom he will. 22For it is not The Father who judges a man, but he has given all judgment to The Son 23That everyone should honor The Son as one honors The Father. He who does not honor The Son is not honoring The Father who sent him.
24Timeless truth I speak to you: “Whoever hears my word and trusts in him who has sent me has the eternal Life, and he comes not into judgment, but he moves from death into Life.
25Timeless truth I speak to you: The hour is coming, it is even now, when the dead shall hear the voice of The Son of God, and they who hear shall live. 26For just as The Father has The Life in himself, so he has given also to The Son to have The Life in himself. 27And he has given him authority to also do judgment because he is The Son of Man. 28Do not be astonished at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in the graves shall hear his voice,29And they shall come out: those who have done good things, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil deeds, to the resurrection of judgment.
30I cannot do anything of my own will, but according to that which I have heard, I judge, and my judgment is just, for I am not seeking my will, but the will of him who has sent Me.
31And if I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32There is another who testifies about me, and I know that his testimony, which he testifies of me, is true.
33You sent to Yohannan and he testified concerning the truth. 34But I was not receiving the testimony of a man, but I say these things that you may live. 35He was a blazing and shining lamp, and you were willing to boast about the time in his light.
36But my testimony which is borne to me is greater than Yohannan’s, for the works that my Father gave me to finish, those works which I have done testify for me that The Father has sent Me.
37And The Father who has sent me, he testifies of me. You have never heard his voice and you have not seen his appearance, 38And his word is not abiding in you, because you are not trusting in him whom he has sent.
39Search the scriptures, for in them you hope that you have eternal life, and they testify concerning Me, 40And you are not willing to come to me that eternal life may be yours. 41I do not receive glory from the children of men. 42But I know you, that the love of God is not in you. 43I have come in The Name of my Father and you do not receive me, and if another shall come in his own name, you will receive him. 44How can you believe, who are accepting glory one from another, and you are not seeking the glory of The One God? 45Do you think that I am accusing you before The Father? There is one who accuses you: Moses, the one in whom you hope. 46For if you had trusted Moses, you would also trust me, for he wrote about Me. 47And if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

1And I saw and behold, The Lamb standing on the Mount Zion, and with him one hundred and forty four thousand who have his name upon them and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.2And I heard a sound from Heaven as the sound of many waters and as the sound of a great thunder; the sound which I heard was like a harpist* playing on his harp. 3And they were singing as a new hymn of praise before the throne and before The Four Beasts and before the Elders, and no one was able to learn the hymn but the one hundred and forty four thousand redeemed from The Earth.4These are those who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins who cleave to the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from men, the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.5And there is no falsehood found in their mouths as they are without fault.
6And I saw another Angel flying in the midst of Heaven and he had with him The Eternal Good News to preach unto the dwellers of Earth and unto all people, nations, generations and languages,7Saying with a great voice, “Stand in awe of God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made the Heavens and The Earth and the Sea and the springs of water.”
8And another, the second one, followed him and said, “Fallen, fallen, Babylon the Great, who gave all nations to drink of the passion* of her fornication!”
9Another, the third Angel, followed them saying with a great voice, “Whoever worshiped The Beast and its Image and received its mark on his forehead 10Shall also drink from the wine of the passion of THE LORD JEHOVAH, which is mixed* without dilution* in the cup of his rage, and he will be tormented by fire and brimstone before the holy Angels and before the Lamb.” 11“And the smoke of their torment ascends for the eternity of eternities, and there is no rest, day or night, for those who worship The Beast and its Image and for him who takes the mark of its name.”* 12“Here is the patience of The Holy Ones, those who keep the commands of God and the faith of Yeshua.”
13And I heard a voice from Heaven that said, “Write, Blessed are the dead, from now on, who have departed in Our Lord; Yes, says The Spirit, because they shall rest from their labors.”
14And behold, a white cloud, and upon the cloud sat the likeness of a man, and he had on his head a crown of gold, and in his hand a sharp sickle. 15And another Angel went out from the Temple and shouted with a great voice to him sitting on the cloud, “Send your sickle and reap, because the hour to reap has come.”16And he who sat on the cloud thrust his sickle unto The Earth and The Earth was reaped.
17Another Angel went out from The Temple which is in Heaven, and there was with him a sharp sickle. 18Another Angel went out from the altar, who had authority over fire, and he shouted with a great voice to him who had the sharp sickle with him: “Send your sharp sickle and gather of the clusters of the vineyards of The Earth, because its grapes are large.” 19And the Angel thrust his sickle unto The Earth and gathered the vines of The Earth and cast them into the great winepress of the passion of God. 20And the winepress was trodden outside the city and blood came out of the winepress unto the bridle of the horses for twelve hundred * stadia.
John 4:31-54
31And in the midst of these things his disciples were begging him and were saying to him, “Our Master, eat.” 32But he said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” 33The disciples were saying among themselves, “Did someone bring him something to eat?” 34Yeshua said to them, “My personal food is that I do the will of him who has sent me and finish His work. 35Do you not say, ‘After four months the harvest comes?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and behold the fields that are white and are ready to harvest even now. 36And whoever reaps receives wages and he gathers fruit for life eternal and the sower and reaper shall rejoice together. 37For in this is a word of truth, that ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38I sent you to harvest something in which you were not laboring, for another labored and you have entered upon their labors.”
39Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s saying which she testified: “He told me everything that I have done.” 40And when those Samaritans came to him, they requested of him that he would stay with them, and he was with them for two days.41And many believed in him because of his word. 42And they were saying to that woman, “Now it is not because of your word that we believe in him, for we have heard and we know that This One is truly The Messiah*, The Lifegiver of the world.”
43And after two days, Yeshua went out from there and left for Galilee. 44For Yeshua had been testifying that a Prophet is not honored in his city. 45But when he came to Galilee, the Galileans received him because they saw all the miracles that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they had also gone to the feast.
46But Yeshua came again to Qatna of Galilee, where he had made the water wine, and a servant of a certain King was staying in Kapernahum, whose son was ill. 47This man had heard that Yeshua came from Judea to Galilee and he went to him and was imploring him to come down and heal his son, for he was coming close to dying. 48Yeshua said to him, “If you will not see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” 49That servant of The King said to him, “My lord, come down or else the boy will die.”50Yeshua said to him, “Go; your son is saved.” And that man believed in the word that Yeshua spoke to him, and he went on. 51But when he was going down, his servants met him and they announced good news to him and were saying to him, “Your son is saved.” 52And he asked them at what time he was cured; they were saying to him, “Yesterday, in the seventh hour, the fever left him.” 53And his father knew that in that same hour Yeshua said to him, “Your son is saved.” And he believed and his whole household. 54This is again the second miracle Yeshua did, when he came from Judea to Galilee.
